Why PetFriendlyStay exists

“Pet friendly” is one of the least reliable labels in hospitality. Two hotels can carry the same badge and mean entirely different things by it. One hands your dog a bed, food and water bowls and a map of the nearest pet relief area. The other allows a single pet under a maximum weight in pounds, adds a nightly pet fee and a pet cleaning fee at checkout, and quietly excludes half a dozen breeds. That difference rarely appears on the booking page. It sits in a pet policy published somewhere else, revised without notice, and written to protect the property rather than to inform the guest.

PetFriendlyStay exists to read that fine print first. We treat the pet policy as the product — because for anyone travelling with a dog or a cat, that is exactly what it is.

Who we write for

For travellers who do not treat leaving the dog behind as a real option. Our reader is not looking for a hotel that tolerates pets; they are looking for one that has thought about them. Where the room layout works for an animal, where staff know what to do with one, where the walk to grass takes two minutes rather than twenty, and where the pet fee is stated up front instead of discovered on the final bill.

What you will find here

Pet-friendly hotels, organised by place

Start with the properties themselves and browse pet-friendly stays country by country, or go straight to a market with our pet-friendly hotel selection in France. Each country is broken down to city and neighbourhood level, because in an unfamiliar city the right district matters as much as the right hotel when a dog needs walking twice a day.

Editorial, for the questions a listing never answers

Alongside the selections, our writing covers what happens once the room is booked: destination guides written for travelling pet owners, city stays where the dog is part of the reservation, the on-property pet services worth asking about before you arrive, and how hotel pet policies are shifting across the industry.

How we work

We would rather describe our method than make claims about it. For every property, we read the pet policy as the hotel publishes it and record what it actually states:

  • the pet fee, and whether it is charged per night, per stay or as a one-off pet cleaning fee;
  • the maximum weight allowed, in pounds, and whether it applies per pet or as a combined weight;
  • breed restrictions, and how many pets are allowed per room;
  • whether dogs and cats are both accepted, and whether an animal may be left unattended in the room;
  • which amenities are provided rather than merely advertised — dog beds, bowls, treats, relief areas, walking or grooming services;
  • whether the property suits a short break or an extended stay with a pet.

Where a hotel does not publish one of these details, we say so instead of filling the gap ourselves. Pet policies change and pet fees are revised, so anything published here reflects what the property stated when we checked it. Readers who spot an out-of-date fee or weight limit are the fastest way we learn about it, and we correct what they report. We earn revenue when a reader books through a partner link, which is stated here because it belongs in the open rather than in a footnote.
