A Curio Hotel on Curitiba's Grand Avenue, With Space for a Small Companion

Avenida Sete de Setembro cuts across Curitiba from the old centre towards the leafy districts of Batel and Água Verde, and number 4211 sits on its most pleasant stretch, among apartment towers, shopping centres and the green squares that give the capital of Paraná its reputation as Brazil's most orderly big city. QOYA took over the building that long housed the Four Points by Sheraton and reopened it under Hilton's Curio Collection, the brand reserved for hotels with their own personality. The result is contemporary and sober in tone, with an indoor pool, a restaurant called Koré and a pet policy written down in black and white.

Why It Works

Big-city hotels in Brazil are rarely set up for animals, and those that do accept them often keep the rules vague. QOYA is specific: one dog or cat per room, small size only, a nightly fee capped per stay, and the rule that pets are not left alone in the room. For travellers who bring a small dog or a cat on a city break or a work trip, that clarity is worth a great deal. We chose it because it combines that policy with a brand-level standard of comfort, a well-reviewed breakfast and an address where a short walk is always possible.

Why This Location

The hotel sits on the edge of Batel, Curitiba's smartest neighbourhood for restaurants, bars and shopping. Praça do Japão, a landscaped square with ponds, cherry trees and the Japanese Immigration Memorial, is about three minutes away on foot and makes a natural first walk of the morning. Praça Oswaldo Cruz is around a kilometre away, the historic centre about two kilometres, and Afonso Pena international airport some 18 km by road, with a paid airport shuttle available. Valet parking is on site for guests arriving by car.

The Rules for Travelling Here With a Pet

The policy is short and worth reading before booking. One pet per room is accepted, dog or cat, within a small weight limit, and exotic animals are not. A nightly fee applies, capped for longer stays, and published sources differ slightly on the exact weight limit and the deposit, so confirm both with the hotel when you reserve. Pets must not be left unattended in the room, which means planning meals out around your animal, or using room service, and bringing the dog along for walks rather than leaving it behind.

Pool, Spa and the Third-Floor Patio

Curitiba is known for changeable weather, and the hotel is equipped for it. The heated indoor pool works all year, with a hot tub and a sauna alongside, massages can be booked, and the fitness centre is open to guests. On fine days, the third-floor patio gives a little open air above the avenue. None of this is a destination spa, but for a city hotel it covers the essentials of an evening after a day of meetings or sightseeing.

Breakfast and Dinner at Koré

Breakfast is the part of the stay reviewers mention first, described as varied, tasty and carefully prepared, with in-room breakfast available for those travelling with a pet. Koré, the hotel restaurant, serves Brazilian cuisine and holds its own against the many addresses in Batel, and the bar and lounge make an easy place to end the day without leaving the building.
