Luxury Pet Amenities
The bed, the bowl, the welcome note and the turndown biscuit. Pet amenities are where a hotel shows whether it has thought about your dog or simply added a line to its rate sheet.
We separate what is genuinely useful on a stay from what photographs well and stays in the corner of the room.
The amenities that change a stay, and the ones that do not
An orthopaedic bed in the right size, a non-slip bowl set that is refilled without asking, and a note telling you where the nearest pet relief areas are will do more for a weekend than any embroidered blanket. The test we apply is simple: does the item survive contact with a real dog, and is it there on arrival rather than on request? Amenity kits that only appear when you flag the pet at check-in are a policy problem dressed as a perk, and they usually sit alongside a pet fee that is not explained.
Amenity or service?
Much of what hotels list as an amenity is really a service, and the two fail differently. A bowl is either there or it is not; a walking service depends on staffing and can vanish on a busy weekend. We keep the distinction visible, and cover the staffed side separately in the services hotels actually staff for pets and in what hotels put on a dog's menu. The physical side of the room, from flooring to furniture, is where amenities either work or get in the way, which we follow through rooms designed around an animal.
Where to see it done well
The amenity standard is highest where competition for pet owners is oldest. Look at French hotels with a genuine dog welcome and UK properties built around travelling with a pet. The rest of this section sits under ideas for a better stay with a pet.
