Wisznice is a village on the road that runs north through the Lublin voivodeship towards Biala Podlaska, in the flat, forested country that Poland keeps for itself. Avangarda sits on the edge of it, on ulica Warszawska, and the reason to know about it is what is immediately behind: a pine wood that starts at the boundary of the property. The hotel is a modern building with two accommodation wings, a restaurant, and a ballroom that is busy on Saturdays, and it makes no claim to be a destination. What it offers is a comfortable, quiet, unhurried night in a part of the country most travellers only drive through.

Why It Works

The forest is the reason this made the list. The rooms are split between two parts of the building, and the difference matters on a Saturday. Fifteen sit alongside the ballroom, and ten more are above the smaller banquet hall.
