Hotel Patrizia
What won us over here is the view: a family-run four-star superior perched above Meran...
Schenna is the sunny village on the slope above Merano, a place of orchards, vineyards and old farmhouses with the Texel Group nature park rising behind it. Prunner Luxury Suites is a small modern building at around 600 metres of altitude, a few minutes' walk from the village centre, and it does something unusual for its size: it puts its best asset on the roof. Up there, a heated saltwater infinity pool looks across the Merano basin to the surrounding peaks, next to a compact Sky Spa. Below are just seven rooms, six of them suites, each named after a song, from Purple Rain to Love is in the Air.
We picked Prunner because it proves that a design hotel can be genuinely welcoming to dogs. Four-legged guests are accepted, with water and food bowls on request, and the surroundings are made for walking them, from the Waalwege irrigation paths to the high trails of the Texel Group. The adults-only policy, set at 14 and over, keeps the house calm. The scale is the other argument: with seven rooms, the rooftop pool and sauna never feel crowded, and the service is personal. Quality shows in the details, from custom-made furniture to Gessi bathroom fittings and frameless windows.
The hotel sits in the upper part of Schenna, around 500 metres from the historic centre with its church and shops, and a public bus stop is less than 100 metres from the door. Merano, with its arcades, spa town promenades and thermal baths, is about 4 kilometres away. The Merano 2000 ski and hiking area is roughly ten minutes by car, which makes Prunner a year-round base: hiking and cycling from spring to autumn, skiing in winter. An underground car park makes arriving by car easy, and Bolzano airport is about 30 kilometres away.

The suites range from 55 to 90 square metres, generous by any standard, and several come with very large terraces: Love is in the Air adds 48 square metres of outdoor space to its 62 square metre interior. Purple Rain, a 60 square metre panorama suite with its own terrace, is designed to be accessible. Little True Blue, the 35 square metre double, is the entry point. Natural wood floors, rainfall showers and, in some categories, private infrared cabins set the tone. With a dog, a terrace of that size is a small garden of your own.
The wellness offer is compact but well judged: sauna, relaxation room, massages and treatments, plus a Zerobody dry floating experience at extra cost. After a day on the trails, the sequence is simple, from the sauna to the rooftop pool as the light drops over the valley, then a glass at the residence bar. Cyclists are looked after too, with secure storage and tools. Book well ahead in peak season: seven rooms fill quickly.
