Hinduja Haveli
★★★A Carved Door Into Jodhpur's Blue City
Jodhpur's old city is a maze of blue-washed houses climbing toward Mehrangarh Fort, and most hotels built for that view sit outside the walls, a taxi ride from the lanes they're selling. Hinduja Haveli doesn't: it's inside them, behind a large wooden door with carved detailing that marks it out from the plain shopfronts either side. Marble floors run through the lobby and rooms, a small, deliberate touch of grandeur in a three-room property that otherwise keeps things simple. The rooftop terrace is the payoff — a flat, unobstructed view across the old city's rooftops to the fort above.
Why It Works
We chose this address for the kind of proximity that changes a trip: Toorji's Step Well is a five-minute walk, Mehrangarh Fort's gate eight, Sardar Market and the Clock Tower just over the river of blue houses between them. Dogs travel with their owners here without complication, and the room mix — a standard double, an economy double, and a shared dormitory bunk — covers a couple, a budget traveller and a solo visitor from the same small property. It's not a design hotel; it's a genuine old-city address at an old-city price, which is rarer in Jodhpur than the carved doors would suggest.
Why This Location
The haveli sits near Gulab Sagar, a step-tank behind the Ramdwara temple in the old city's tangle of lanes, close enough to the Panchmukha Mahadev Mandir to orient by it rather than a street address. Every major old-city landmark is within ten minutes on foot: Toorji's Step Well, Sardar Market's spice and textile stalls, the Clock Tower, and Mehrangarh Fort's ramparts above it all. It's a location built for walking rather than driving, which is exactly how the old city is meant to be seen.

Three Rooms Behind a Marble Lobby
The standard double runs 19 sqm with marble flooring and a window onto the old city's rooftops; the economy double is smaller and plainer at 14 sqm, built for travellers prioritising location over space. The shared dormitory bunk is the property's budget option, a single bed in a 10 sqm room rather than a private bath. None of the three categories are large, but all three share the same carved-door entrance and rooftop access, which is the point of staying here over a bigger hotel outside the walls.
The View From the Rooftop Terrace
The terrace is the property's real amenity: a flat, open rooftop with a clear line across the blue-washed houses of the old city toward Mehrangarh Fort, best around sunset when the stone walls catch the light. It's the kind of view that larger hotels further out can only approximate from a higher floor, and here it comes with the property rather than a premium room category.
Before You Book: Old City Logistics
The old city's lanes are narrow and largely closed to cars, so arriving by taxi usually means a short walk with luggage over uneven stone — worth planning for rather than being surprised by. There's no on-site restaurant, so meals mean stepping out into the old city's own food stalls and cafés, which most guests treat as part of the experience rather than an inconvenience. Dogs are welcome, though with only three rooms, confirming space well ahead matters more here than at a larger property.
