Gkeea Boutique Hotel
We chose GKEEA Boutique Hotel for its three decades in the same family, hands and...
Nea Iraklitsa is the kind of North Aegean village that Greek families have known for decades. Panorama Hill sits above it, on the slope behind the seafront, and it takes its name literally: every one of its 31 rooms opens onto a balcony, and the better ones face the water and the curve of the coast towards Kavala. It is a young hotel with a salt-water infinity pool and a clean, contemporary line that guests keep describing as beautifully designed. Two house rules define it. It is adults only. And pets are allowed.
Pet-friendly hotels on the Greek coast usually mean family resorts where a dog is tolerated at the edge of a busy pool deck. Panorama Hill turns that around. The adults-only policy keeps the atmosphere quiet, the scale stays small enough to keep the pool calm, and the garden and sun terrace give an animal somewhere to settle while its owners read by the water. We chose it because it answers a precise need: a calm, modern base on the sea for couples who refuse to leave the dog at home, without paying for resort-scale extras they will never use.
The hotel stands on Antheon street in the upper part of Nea Iraklitsa, roughly 400 metres from the village beach, a seven to eight minute walk downhill. Kavala is about 15 km east, close enough for an evening in the old town below the castle and the arches of the aqueduct. Westwards, the Amolofoi beaches near Nea Peramos, Blue Flag stretches, are a short drive away. Kavala's Megas Alexandros airport is roughly 26 km away and Thessaloniki about 140 km, so the hotel works both as a fly-in stay and as a stop on a Balkan road trip, with free private parking on site.

Life here gravitates towards the pool. It is salt water rather than chlorine, built with an infinity edge and the bay beyond it, and ringed with sun loungers and umbrellas, with towels provided for pool and beach. The pool bar keeps drinks and light dishes within reach through the afternoon, and the garden and terrace offer shade for anyone, on two legs or four, who has had enough sun. Because children are not accepted, the soundtrack stays low from morning to sunset.
Rooms follow the same clean, contemporary line as the public spaces. The choice that matters is orientation. The sea-view rooms face the bay and the pool, and are worth the higher rate for anyone who plans to spend time on the balcony. The mountain-view rooms look inland over the garden and the hills, quieter and a little cooler in high summer. Allergy-free rooms are available and the building is non-smoking throughout.
Pets are accepted, and the setting does much of the work: a walkable village, a beach a few minutes away on foot and a garden on site. As with most Greek hotels, conditions such as size, number of animals or any supplement are set by the property, so confirm them directly and mention your pet when you book. The beach at the foot of the village and the quieter coves towards Nea Peramos suit early and late walks. The adults-only rule, for the record, applies to people, not to dogs.
